Our Story

The Altus Animal Welfare Association is a non-profit organization established in 2016 by a group of Altus, Oklahoma citizens who saw much-needed reform to animal welfare in Altus.  

MISSION

To advocate for animals of the Altus Shelter as well as animals within Southwest Oklahoma and to provide access to low-cost preventive

care and spay/neuter services in a kind and compassionate

environment to all Southwest Oklahoma pet owners.

VISION

 A culture of compassion for animals and access to care for ALL pet owners throughout Southwest Oklahoma.

Our Numbers

Since AAWA started in 2016, there have been 171 dogs and 23 cats sponsored for transport to out of state rescues in Colorado, Washington State, Oregon & Minnesota to find them loving families.

In 2018 a total of 737 Spay/Neuter Surgeries were completed.

  • 242 dog spays

  • 196 dog neuters

  • 163 cat spays

  • 136 cat neuters

AAWA believes that through the generosity of different sponsors and the support of the community, all animals in Southwest Oklahoma will enjoy happy, healthy lives.
