Our Story
The Altus Animal Welfare Association is a non-profit organization established in 2016 by a group of Altus, Oklahoma citizens who saw much-needed reform to animal welfare in Altus.
MISSION
To advocate for animals of the Altus Shelter as well as animals within Southwest Oklahoma and to provide access to low-cost preventive
care and spay/neuter services in a kind and compassionate
environment to all Southwest Oklahoma pet owners.
VISION
A culture of compassion for animals and access to care for ALL pet owners throughout Southwest Oklahoma.

* Since AAWA started in 2016, there have been 246 shelter dogs and 33 shelter cats sponsored for transport & hundreds more have received 'at cost' vetting through our spay/neuter clinic so they can go out of state to rescues in Colorado, Washington State, Oregon & Minnesota to find them forever homes.
