Altus Spay and Neuter Clinic
Around this same time last year the Spay and Neuter Clinic was nothing but a plan on a piece of paper, but now AAWA is very proud to announce that the Altus Spay and Neuter Clinic is impacting the community!
The generous donation from WaterShed Animal Fund and the support from the City of Altus has turned this dream into reality.
As previously planned the clinic is exclusively serving the pets from the Altus Animal Shelter. The objective of this clinic is to make sure all animals are ready to be adopted without putting the burden of preventative care on their new families. The long term goal is for the clinic to be able to serve the rest of the community in the near future.
The Trap-Neuter-Release program for community cats has also been very successful since it started last month. Please call 580-471-0392 to get scheduled for a Tuesday! Every Tuesday, Dr. Alison Templer performs surgery for all community cats. The cats are not only spayed/neutered but they receive the necessary vaccines as well. Community cats are being brought in by amazing cat advocates from all around the city. Traps can be checked out from the clinic every Monday morning between 8:00AM to 10:00AM. The cats that are trapped are then dropped off at the clinic every Tuesday between 7:30AM - 9:00AM.
As of Nov 30th, 2019 the clinic has served 528 pets. 89 of these are cats that were brought in for TNR and 131 shelter pets.
The Altus Spay and Neuter Clinic is still in its early stages and improvements are being made to be able to expand the programs. The impact that these programs will be making in the community will be felt in the coming years.
AAWA is committed to maintaining access to preventative care for pets and pet parents in the community as we change the culture of animal welfare in Southwest Oklahoma.
