AAWA ANNUAL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Altus Animal Welfare Association (AAWA) was established in 2016 out of concern for the deteriorating conditions at the Altus Animal Shelter. Since then, we have expanded our mission and made significant improvements to the entire animal welfare landscape in our region. Until AAWA was formed, there was no organization in our Southwest Oklahoma region dedicated to providing programs that work on the front end of pet overpopulation.
In three short years, AAWA has affected change in the City of Altus animal ordinances, made improvements to the Altus Animal Shelter and secured grant funding for several community outreach/animal shelter support programs that are reducing the number of unwanted animals in our area. AAWA’s Spay/Neuter Program (AASNIP) sterilized 737 cats and dogs in 2018. As a result of our program, the Altus Shelter took in 206 less dogs last year. This year we have already sterilized 360 animals.
Furthermore, AAWA has formed critical partnerships with other animal welfare organizations across Oklahoma that, together, are working to make Oklahoma a humane state by 2025 - 90% Live Release Rate from ALL municipal and private animal shelters.
The only way to reach this goal is to offer financially accessible spay/neuter programs, humane education programs, promote adoptions, transport adoptable pets to out-of-state rescues and support pet owners who have limited access to proper care for the pets they already have.

ADVOCATE $20- can pay yearly vaccines for 1 pet
COMPANION $50 - can spay/neuter 1 shelter dog or 2 feral cats
FRIEND $100 - can sponsor the adoption fee for 2 shelter pets
CHAMPION $ 500 - can keep 5 pets in the homes they already have by supporting their medical needs and pet supplies.
GUARDIAN $1000 - can send 14 dogs to out of state rescues where most find their forever home within two weeks, many times only two days!
