AAWA's Pets For Life Program began in May 2019 as an outreach to underserved neighborhoods in Altus to offer free pet care resources, services and information. As of September 20th, 2019, 207 pets have been spayed/neutered and a total of 704 pets have received some type of medical or pet supply assistance!
AAWA remains committed to working on the front end of pet overpopulation through spay and neuter services - providing assistance to pet parents with limited or nonexistent access to pet wellness resources, through door-to-door outreach, helps us further that mission.
Through consistent access to spay/neuter, basic pet wellness care, supplies and information for their pets, residents are better equipped as pet parents. This will keep pets happy and healthy with the families they already have and reduce the amount of homeless pets in the area.
AAWA believes that a pet parent’s inability to provide the essential pet care services does not translate to negligence or a lack of love for their animals. More often than not, it’s inaccessibility to pet care resources that is the root of the problem.
Through Pets For Life, AAWA hopes that more lives will be enriched by the joy and love that a pet can bring.
